With my family, we enjoy watching tv while having dinner.  After a long stressful day, it's nice to just watch mindless tv instead of chit chatting about our day (which usually doesn't differ much anyway).  Sometimes we get to follow Guy on Diner, Dives and Drive ins.... or Dives, Diners and Drive ins... something like that.  Recently some Vancouver establishments have been featured on the tv show which is good for us here in Vancouver since we probably will never get to try the tasty dishes from Louisiana.  However, Stewart and I have visited a many restaurants recommended by Guy and I don't know if its cause we are expecting it to be great but usually we leave disappointed.
Meat & Bread on Urbanspoon
We decided to try Meat and Bread that is located on Cambie near Hastings. The restaurant has a great atmosphere with a very natural feel with lots of wood detailing.  There is one long community table and a few smaller ones.  The menu is located on the wall to the right of where you come in.  Apparently, the menu changes daily and once they sell out of something that is it.  We ordered the Meatball sandwich and the Porchetta Sandwhich.

The Meatball sandwich was very messy.  It was so heavily spiced that you almost couldn't enjoy it.  The Porchetta sandwhich isn't bad. They put a good amount of meat in the sandwich and the little crispy bits were a nice touch.  What I didn't like was the large chunks of fat. What made it for me was the mustard that everyone gets with your sandwich.  Its sooo good!  I think its kinda like a dijon mustard and it made my sandwich.  Oh and also the buns are a bit tough.

I really wanted to LOVE this place as alot of people that i know do. Maybe I need to give it another try?

So, once again we are not super impressed by one of Guy's recommendations.

Has any one else visited a restaurant that you've seen featured on tv?  Did you end up loving it?

Hi Victoria! Love your blog! I love blogging and reading food blogs!!

I agree with you on M&B being overrated, and the joints that Guy hit up, when he was in town, suck! If you're looking for a good sandwich, you should try Hubbub and Big Lou's! La Grotta del Formaggio on Commercial for good value, create-your-own italian sandwiches! Oh and everybody loves Finch's proscuitto sandwich but their service is unbelieveably slow!

Check out my food blog when you have a chance, hehe
